There is an art to being an ant exterminator. Any one can get a can of bug spray and give the ants a few shots of it and hope they disappear and don't come back but they always come back because you have to exterminate the colony. That's the hardest part -getting to the queen of the ant hill.
Ants are one of mom Nature's most anticipated insects. They're natures clean up crew. They can carry 25 times their own body weight, the queen can live up to 30 years and they clean up other insects, leaves, fruit, aphids and any dead creature. The colony has one queen ant, employee ants and male ants and the employee ants can live up to 3 years. The male ants have a small life span of a consolidate of weeks but they do their job very efficiently in that time.
There can be millions of ants in each colony and they will park their colony any where they can. That means in your walls, concrete slabs, sidewalks, lawn, bathroom, and kitchen just to name a few places. So how does an ant exterminator get rid of the ants? The first step the exterminator will do is to identify the type of ants you have. There are a plethora of different ants. Such as carpenter ants, sugar ants, fire ants, ghost ants, big headed ants, thief ants, pharaoh ants and acrobat ants. There's even an ant call the crazy raspberry ant. All can be exterminated but it takes different methods for each species.
When the business you call sends out their ant exterminator they will check your house for infestation. If he just sprays with some pesticide then they don't know what they are doing. Your ant qoute will only disappear for a few days then they'll be back in force. Ants have ways of looking new route to their food supply. If the queen is not killed the ants will be back.
Ant's nests are regularly hidden from view or deep in the ground with many chambers. They keep the egg and queen chambers well protected. Using gas or boiling water with insecticide in it is a hit or miss type of rehabilitation .
It may force the ants to move the nest and regroup for their next attack. Plus gas and boiling water could damage the plants and grass colse to the nest. Exterminating ants takes patients and a good exterminator.
The ant exterminator will hunt out where the ants are living and use a two step method to eliminate them. The first step is a broadcast of non toxic pesticide and the second stage is a drenching.
The first stage spreads the pesticide close to the ants nest. They will carry it back to their nest for feeding it to the general citizen and hopefully the queen. This will corollary in the queen ant becoming infertile and the queen will no longer be able to lay eggs. This first stage is designed to kill as many of the ants and eggs and perhaps the queen. This step should take place in the summer or fall when ants do most of their foraging. Ants will select a new queen if she dies.
The second step is considerable to eliminate the colony entirely. The second stage consists of a mass drenching. The ant exterminator will use an organic liquid pesticide that is liberally applied to the nest. This should kill the remaining ants that survived the first stage. In Texas they call this the "Texas Two Step" and use it to kill fire ants. It can be applied to all types of ants and is the most sufficient way to get rid of the entire colony.
